BBCF Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Bachelor-Benedict Community Foundation, Inc.<\/strong> is a Washington, D.C. 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has as its charitable purposes to provide scholarships to qualified students and investment in youth programs with proven outcomes. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we were compelled to explore ways that we could focus our charitable efforts to benefit minority youth whose lives and education were disproportionately disrupted in under-resourced Washington metro area communities. Today we are pleased to continue these efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Foundation was born out of the desire of some members of the 112 year old Bachelor-Benedict Club, Inc. (BBC) of Washington, DC to make the organization more meaningful to DC communities. The social club was originally founded for social fellowship and entertainment amongst its membership of accomplished and distinguished African American men. The organization sponsored forty years of debutante cotilions presenting debutantes in the community that ended in 1970. It was recognized in 2018 by the DC History Center (formerly the Historical Society of Washington, DC) as part its \u201cBig Picture Exhibit\u201d. Now the BBC has come together as a collective of concerned and philanthropic men creating the Bachelor-Benedict Community Foundation, Inc. (BBCF). As such, it is now presenting financial support and a brain-trust of professional expertise to aspiring youth in our community. Our organization of accomplished and distinguished men found that it has much to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scholarship Awardees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Ron Brown College Preparatory High School provided a graduating senior for our inaugural Paul E. Sluby Scholarship. This class of 2019 scholarship marked the first award of those that our Board of Directors determined would be a granted annually to aspiring youth.

Food Bank Partnership in Support of COVID-19 Relief<\/h2>\n\n\n

Based on the hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic we have expanded our charitable efforts during this time and approved funding to support the Capital Area Food Bank. This organization was selected from several that provide these much-needed services during our economic crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. We will also seek to support them with volunteers to assist in packaging and distribution of meals for school kids, seniors and the disabled in under resourced communities. We have made donations that have provided 5000 meals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
